Birthday Celebrations 2008
A venue switch was the order for the day, when Bill Kearney rang on the Friday morning to raise concerns about the worsening weather conditions for the Birthday BBQ being held at Kilcoy on the 31st of May.
There was a real possibility that Kilcoy creek might burst its banks which it usually does after a good downpour which the South east Queensland area received leading up the weekend. So it was back to Beachmere to stage our association’s first Birthday.
The preparations thank goodness went well, with Rodger Henry arriving unexpectantly early to lend a hand along with Col Meacham.
Col and his wonderful wife Karen had arrived the day before and we had a wonderful evening spent at the local bowls club reminiscing of mates and events back in Townsville. Anyway before I knew it start time arrived much too soon and it was good to see Mick and Janet Kuilboer come along to contribute to what was a memorable day.
The day also afforded the committee an opportunity to conduct a meeting and I can’t emphasise enough of our noel mc Laughlin’s valued contribution to our association. Our jobs would most undoubtedly be much more harder without him with his unfathomable knowledge on associations, constitutions and bylaws.
Anyway folks bear with me as I am not that great ,if at all writing about events or whatever. We also added four new members to our ranks ,which I reckon is great given that the more us there is the merrier. With the meeting out of the way, it was time to eat drink and be merry. Had anybody went home hungry and thirsty well it would have their fault as Mick Kennedy chipped in some meats and I think Bones chipped in with those terrific buns from Blackbutt, in fact everybody chipped in one way or another.
Well I honestly didn’t think anyone could find room to tuck in anymore tucker in but the Birthday cake cut by “Rip” Riley and peter Blackwood was well attacked. That was after a few words from Bones reflecting on the past year and of how quickly it went.
As luck would have it the weather did behave itself on the day and the rain certainly arrived back with a vengeance the next day. Many thanks to Rodger “fang” Hendry, Col and Karen Meacham,Janet Kuilboer and Noela Riley for chipping here and there to make our day a great one.
